Lorraine Corcoran (They/She)

I am a student psychotherapist currently working towards a BA in Counselling and Psychotherapy. My approach is person-centred which means I believe each person is an expert in their own life. I provide a safe, authentic, non-judgemental, supportive space and work with you to explore and navigate any challenges you may be facing. I also work in an integrative way which means aspects of different types of psychotherapy can be combined to suit your individual needs. I offer a safe space grounded in kindness and respect where you can show up, exactly as you are.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community and a genderqueer person I understand the additional challenges members of our community can face at different stages throughout our lives and understand what it is like to show up in the world with an identity that is not always affirmed and accepted. This can lead to us internalising discrimination and societal expectations which can make it harder for us to live authentically. I have lived experience of unpicking and replacing these beliefs with healthier ones.

I believe our mental health is shaped by our life circumstances, relationships and communities and am a big believer in the healing power of non-judgemental, affirming and accepting spaces. I work with a knowledge of intersectionality and understand that aspects of a person’s identity such as race, sexual orientation, gender, disability and socioeconomic status can interact with systems of power and oppression and shape a person’s mental health and day to day experiences.

I welcome clients of all identities including those who are neurodivergent and am committed to providing a space that is affirming and adaptive to your individual communication style and needs.

Before studying counselling and psychotherapy I have worked for many years in my craniosacral practice and this knowledge of bodywork and nervous system regulation informs my counselling work.

Outside of the therapy room I can most often be found spending time in the forest or by the sea and believe spending time in nature can play an important role in maintaining good mental health.
