Autism Assessments and Post-diagnosis support

I offer neuroaffirming autism assessments for adults, provided under my registration as a Chartered General Health Psychologist / Psicóloga General Sanitaria in Spain.

Please note: assessments carried out under my Spanish registration are not currently recognised in Ireland. If you are based outside Spain, recognition depends on the country and on what you need the report for (health services, work, education, etc.). I recommend checking with the relevant authorities or services in your country before booking, to confirm whether an assessment by a psychologist registered in Spain would be accepted.

A neuroaffirming approach

Many autistic adults have spent years being misunderstood, misdiagnosed or told that what they experience isn’t real. My assessments are informed by a neurodiversity-affirming and social justice-oriented framework. This means:

  • Autism is understood as a natural form of neurological difference, not a deficit. The assessment looks at how you experience the world, not at how well you perform “neurotypical”.

  • Your own account is central. Your history, your experiences and your sense of yourself matter as much as any checklist.

  • Masking is taken into account. Many adults, especially women, trans and non-binary people, and those who were identified late, have learned to hide their traits. We look beyond what is visible on the surface.

  • The process adapts to you. Sensory needs, communication preferences, processing time and breaks are part of the process, and your accessibility needs are important.

What the process looks like

The assessment is a conversation, not a test. Together we will:

  • Talk about what led you here. We start with your story: why you’re considering an assessment, what you’ve noticed about yourself, and what you hope to understand.

  • Go through the DSM criteria together. We look at each one and talk about how it fits (or doesn’t) with your own experiences, in your own words.

  • Explore other possible explanations. We also talk about other things that could be part of the picture, such as trauma, and consider why autism does or doesn’t make sense of your experience.

Fees and booking

Autism assessments are offered at a separate fee, which is different from my therapy session rate listed on the website. Fees vary depending on the assessment process and the level of documentation required. Please get in touch for an individual quote before booking.

After your assessment

If you’ve recently been diagnosed as autistic and/or ADHD, whether through me or another professional, I also offer support through my Autism/ADHD Self-Understanding Programme, to help you make sense of your diagnosis and what it means for you. Take a look here.
